The Weekly Report

Another quiet week, pokerwise. I didn't have enough time during the week to play any tournaments, so it was strictly cash games for me, mainly in 5 Card Draw. My results in 5 Card Draw are a bit up and down. My main leak is call river bets with hands that were good before the draw but are probably way behind. Like aces, low two pair. I really need to watch what I am calling with here.

Sunday night was, of course, BritBloggerment night. 26 entrants was a new record and the banter was flowing. The walk of shame was taken very early this week, in the second or third hand, so that was a bit of a relief.

I had another mixed night. All my good hands came up early doors and I only got paid off on one, Tan being the victim (IIRC). Looking back, I think I could have played it better though. Another misplayed hand was when I ran my jacks into BurleyMik's aces. I raised in EP. BM reraised in MP. I stupidly pushed. He obviously called. My stack was crippled.

So, once more, back into short stack mode. I then had a good wee spell with one pretty bad suckout against BlueScouse. He had raised in EP, I pushed with AJo. He called me with AQ. Ouch. Dominated. An ace fell on the flop but RiverStars was on my side for once and a Jack fell on the river. I still felt bad though. BlueScouse then started pushing in with any two and I busted him with ATo, catapulting me into first place.

Now we come to an area that I need to thoroughly examine, namely what do when your mediocre hand is reraised. My worst hand last night was when I went for blind steal with A6s. PokerPlayer tournie winner, Mikesaban, reaised and I insta-called. Not just called, INSTA-called. I didn't take the time to think about Mike's range here at all. He had AQ (again can't remember exactly but I was dominated) and a large chunk of my stack went into Mike's pile. I need to stop and think more often, especially against strong players, as Mike definitely is.

Back to shortstack mode again. I managed to scrape into the money, which because of the large number of entrants was 5th place before pushing my shortstack in with A6o. Unlucky for me, mikesaban had AKs and for the third time in the tournie I found myself dominated by a higher ace. No third time lucky and I was out.

Oh well, made the money I suppose and I did manage to come back from being a shortstack earlier on in the tournie. So not all bad. And some definite areas to improve on.
