Keeping Fit while Playing

One of the problems of playing online poker is you spend a lot of time sitting around on your arse. This can quickly lead to a loss of fitness and a gain in weight.

So what can you do to counteract this?

Enter the Reebok Cyberrider

The Reebok Cyberrider is an exercise bike that can be connected up to a PS/2 or a PC and used to play games. It has a set of controller buttons in each handlebar and the pedals can act as buttons too. The whole idea behind the Cyberrider was that you could play your favourite driving type game while on the bike. The faster you pedal the faster your vehicle goes.

So how does this apply to poker?

Many online players use game controllers rather than the mouse when playing as this can help prevent Repetitive Strain Injuries. Using the Cyberrider is just an extension of this concept.

What you need:-

  • 1 Reebok Cyberrider
  • 1 PS2 to USB convertor
  • an Autohotkey script

Although the Cyberrider can be attached to a PC serial port, I recommend the PS2 to USB option. The PC serial connection can only handle a small amount of buttons, not enough to fully control your poker playing. While the PS2 option doesn't give you use of every button, it gives you more than the serial PC option and it is enough for most things.

So, connect up the Cyberrider to the PS2 to USB controller then to your PC. By the miracle of Plug'n'Play the Cyberrider should be automatically recognised as a game controller. You can then go into the Game Controller Control Panel applet and check which buttons on the Cyberrider are being recognised.

I'll leave the setup of the AHK script and mapping buttons to actions upto the reader.

Once you've got it working, you can play poker while cycling thus getting a bit of exercise while winning money!
